Get Your Home Ready for Spring

Tulips, Spring Decor

Spring is a beautiful season blooming with new life and sunshine. When it comes to getting our homes ready for warmer weather and longer days, spring cleaning often comes to mind as a way to welcome the season. But there is so much more you can do to brighten up your home and get it spring-ready. If you’re sick of winter and want to invite the ambience of spring into your home, here are a few easy decor ideas that embody the spirit of springtime.

Let the Spring Light In

Spring is marked by new sunny weather so why not brighten your house by simply letting that light in? Keep curtains open during the day and consider purchasing sheer fabric curtains that allow light in even when they’re closed.

You’ll be surprised at how different your home feels with just a little more light. Additionally, changing your curtains with the changing of seasons is a quick way to refresh a space. Take down your dark, heavy curtains, give them a wash, and keep them in the closet for next winter.

Switch Out Your Rugs

Just like heavy curtains, thick rugs will give your home a winter feel. While a heavy throw rug is perfect for fall and winter, it can cramp the light and airy style of spring. Instead, use some light rugs in your living space to get it ready for spring. Switching rugs out is a great way to revive your space. It’s an easy way to add colour and texture to any room.

It’s also the perfect opportunity to get your heavy winter rugs professionally cleaned and ready for next winter. With loads of styles and materials to choose from, shopping for new throw rugs is always fun. White or pastel colours will be especially flattering during the spring season.

Bring in Pastels

Speaking of pastels, what says ‘spring’ more than a bright and beautiful pastel colour scheme? Pastels can be brought in to your home with flowers, cushions, throws, and any number of decorative objects. There is something inherently joyful about pastels, making them the perfect colour choice for spring. Though often associated with nurseries, there is nothing childish about pastels. Touches of pastels can soften darker spaces, and muted hues add elegance and sophistication to neutral rooms when used wisely.

Add Houseplants

If you don’t already grow houseplants indoors, consider doing so. Houseplants bring the vibe of spring inside your house. Spring is all about life and growth. What better way to honour that growth than by bringing plant life right into your home? And, fortunately, your plants will do more than just look great. Houseplants will also improve your air quality by purifying toxins and producing oxygen.

Get Spring-Ready With Flowers

Flowers scream ‘spring’ just as much as pastels do. They are everywhere in spring and you don’t need to spend a lot at the florist to have them in your home. Because of the flower abundance in spring, you can find some beautiful arrangements at your local grocery store for an affordable price. Find some vases that match your home decor and keep fresh flowers in them. Make it a habit to grab flowers when you go grocery shopping, and you’ll always benefit from the warm ambience that flowers provide.

Style with Decorative Glass

Decorative glass objects will enhance the light in your home. Style your dining table with a large vase, or group a few smaller vases of different shapes and sizes. Dress up your dresser with an attractive new mirror. Adorn your credenza with glazed glass objects, preferably in pastel colours. Whether it’s a gorgeous decorative vase that scatters sunlight or large mirrors, styling with glass will keep your home decor from feeling too heavy.

Spring-ify Your Entrance

There are so many beautiful spring wreaths that you can add to your door to brighten up your entrance. Choose colours that match the outside of your home. A wreath is an easy way to increase the curb appeal of your home. The first thing someone sees when they enter your house is the front door so matching the spring energy can set the mood.

Potted plants on your front terrace are another great way to increase your curb appeal. If you’ve got a garden bed on your lawn, you can also use that as a space to plant beautiful spring plants. Adding some color and life to the front of your house will invite springtime into your home.

Spring is a time of change, so don’t let your house look the same as it does in fall and winter. Making some of these easy, minor tweaks to your home decor will get you in the right mindset for the new season.
